August 2 (Monday)

South Hills Saints Football

The final date to sign up to play football for the season will be Monday, August 2 at Our Lady of Grace (gymnasium entrance) starting at 7:00 pm. Come join the winning tradition. Any questions, call Tony Mazzarini at 412-429-8325.

August 5 (Thursday)

Cardinal Newman’s Beautification Mass

Bishop Zubik will be the celebrant for a Special Celebratory Mass in honor of Cardinal Newman's Beautification on Thursday, August 5 at 5:00 pm at St. Paul Cathedral. The Mass is open to the public.

August 8 (Sunday)

Annual Golden Wedding Celebration Invitation

The Diocese of Pittsburgh will hold its annual Golden Wedding Celebration on October 3, 2010 at St. Paul Cathedral at 3:00 pm. The celebrant for Mass will be Bishop Zubik . A reception will follow in the lower hall of the Cathedral. If you are a couple celebrating your 50th Wedding Anniversary any time during 2010 and would like an invitation to attend this joyous event, please call the Parish Office (412-921-0745 ext 8) or drop a note in the collection basket no later than August 8, 2010.

Diocesan Choir Auditions

Auditions for the 2010-2011 Diocesan Choir season will be held soon. The Choir is under the direction of Fr. Jim Chepponis. The Choir sings for major diocesan events at St. Paul Cathedral throughout the year. Rehearsals are held at St. John Capistran Church in Upper St. Clair. To schedule audition time call Doris Anne at 412-456-3042 before August 11.

August 14 (Saturday)

Camp Healing Hearts

Family Hospice and Palliative Care is offering Camp Healing Hearts, a free day camp for grieving children ages 6-12 and their parent(s) or guardian(s). The Camp will be held on Saturday, August 14, from 9:00 am until 3:30 pm at the Compassionate Care Center located at 50 Moffett Street in the South Hills.  Registration is required. A Night At The Races

Bishop Canevin High School is hosting “A Night at the Races” on Friday, August 20, 2010. The $25 entrance donation which benefits the athletic programs, includes food, beer, soft drinks (BYOB) and a night of fun and camaraderie. The event will be held in the high-school auditorium. Horses are available for purchase at $25 and jockeys for $15. Baptism Class

Baptism classes for parents of children to be baptized will be Sunday, August 22 and September 12 after the 12:15 pm Mass. It is suggested that parents attend class before the birth of their child. Please call to register (412-921-1613.)

An Evening with Cahal Dunne

Singer, songwriter, storyteller, comedian. Cahal Dunne will be at St. Thomas More Family Life Center on Saturday, August 21 at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $25 each. BYOB - snacks, soft drinks and set-ups provided. Tickets can be purchased at the Parish Office, 126 Fort Couch Rd., Bethel Park. Seating limited.

St. Margaret of Scotland’s Women’s Retreat

St. Clair Hospital Diabetes Wellness Group is for individuals who have diabetes and those interested in learning more about it. Educational presentations are delivered by leaders in their fields of practice. Dates and brief synopsis of topics: September 22 - Insulin Pumps and Pumper Information; November 18 - Diabetes Update. Classes are held at St. Clair Hospital Diabetes Center, Oxford Drive, Room 435 (across from South Hills Village.) Pre-registration required, call 412-942-2151. Meetings are free and open to the public.
