St. Margaret of Scotland Parish
Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Our week begins with the students attending the Scholastic Book Fair. Proceeds from the Fair will benefit the school library. Thank you to Mrs. Whitaker and Mrs. Hess for sponsoring this event.
During the last several weeks the teachers have been working on our Middle States Reaccredidation project, “Designing Our Future.” Several long hours have been involved in the study of where our school is at in our curriculum, school activities and services. It has been quite an eye opening experience to see where we are and where we want to be. As we complete each final draft in the next few months I will have them available for anyone who would like to read over them. We will have our Middle States Reaccredidation Visiting Team here in the Fall of 2011.
St. Margaret of Scotland School will hold their 14th Annual Christmas Craft Show on Saturday, December 4, from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. Browse over 100 tables of crafts in two large rooms. Visit the Chinese Auction, 55/50 raffle, and baked goods sale. Enjoy a delicious lunch with foods such as haluski, pierogies, and hoagies. Some of the crafts will be: stained glass, jewelry, candles, floral arrangements, American Girl doll clothes, and much more. Gift certificates will be sold, they make terrific gifts for everyone. Baked goods will be accepted Friday, December 3, at the school between 8:00 am-5:30 pm.
Come browse, and do some Christmas shopping. Thanks you for your support. Hope to see you there!
This weekend, November 6/7, Scholastic Book Fairs will host an Open House in the school cafeteria after all Masses. The story of the torture of the seven brothers and their mother, which we hear in today's first reading, reminds us of the extent to which believers are asked to defend their faith. While it is true that we will probably never be asked to sacrifice our lives for the Christian faith, we should still ask God for a strengthening of our faith. As the sacred word is proclaimed, let us pray that we will welcome its saving power into this community of faith, into our families and into our hearts.
Today we find ourselves confronted with the idea of resurrection and eternal life. In Jesus' answer to the Sadducees, we get a hint that risen life is beyond our comprehension. If we believe in the “resurrection of the body and life everlasting,” do we show it in our lives by respecting our bodies and others', by graciously welcoming all to our tables, by our passionate care for and about our neighbors and strangers? Let us pray today for the grace to live out our belief in the Resurrection.
The first White Ribbon Campaign Against Pornography began in 1989 and continues today with this being the 22nd campaign. White ribbons are available at all Masses today. Our families need to support this campaign against the evils of pornography. In doing so they are protecting their children from the prevalence of pornography, which is so easily available on line and on television. May these White Ribbons remind us of our need to promote chastity and the dignity of the human person.
