As we celebrate the Solemnity of the Holy Body and Blood of Christ today, we are reminded of Christ present and living through the Eucharist as our Lord's ultimate sacrifice of the Cross is perpetually brought to life in the Eucharist. At the very heart of our Church, it is the Body and Blood of our Lord that sustains, heals, and nourishes us, as it overcomes the hunger that lies within us. Through the Eucharist, we are joined together as a community of believers, as the Body of the Church, charged with the task of spreading the message of the Gospel through our works, deeds, and example.
With that in mind, I would like to take this occasion to express my gratitude and excitement for the opportunity to serve as our parish's new Youth Minister. My name is Dean Caivano, and I am a parishioner here at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish. Currently, I work as a counselor at a drug and alcohol halfway house for adolescents, and over the past several years I have spent time volunteering in our parish CCD program, Vacation Bible School, and coaching soccer and basketball within our parish school.
The purpose and mission of Youth Ministry here at St. Margaret will be centered on three main pillars of our Catholic faith: fellowship, discipleship, and charity. Our Youth Group, which is open and encouraged for all youths of our parish in grades 9-12 and their friends, will offer the youth of our parish the opportunities to express their faith, actively contribute to our parish as well as the Pittsburgh region, and a wide variety of activities and events ranging from Youth Nights, guest speakers, field trips, to outreach assistance for soup kitchens, nursing homes, and the needy of our community.
I can be reached "by email," <SMSYouthMinsitry at hotmail dot com> or at (412) 298-9592. On a personal note, I would like to sincerely thank Father Bud for this incredible responsibility and opportunity, as well as to express my gratitude to Robin Sampogna for her tremendous work and commitment to our Youth Group over the past few years. I look forward to meeting many new faces and to an exciting year ahead for our Youth Ministry here at St. Margaret!
