It is with a full and compassionate heart that I write this article to members of St. Margaret Parish. After 4 and a half years of serving the parish, I will be stepping down as Youth Minister effective immediately. I feel I have reached a time in my life where I am unable to give fully the time and attention this position needs and deserves. After being married for almost a year now, and having moved away from the Green Tree area, as well as taking on a new role at my full-time job, I did not find it fair to the Youth Group, the parish, or myself to continue to serve in this manner. You deserve more than that from your Youth Minister. This is why Fr. Bud, with my consent, has decided to take the Youth Group in a different direction and reinvigorate it with a new face of leadership. I know deep in my heart that this is the right choice for the parish and the Youth Group.
My tenure as Youth Minister has given me much joy and happiness, as well as many times of tears and laughter, which I hold dear to my heart and will always cherish. I have met some of the most wonderful people and have created long-lasting friendships while in this role, and for that I thank each of you. While serving the youth of our parish, I not only learned a great deal about our students, but also about myself, which was both unexpected and encouraging. The students served as my teachers, as they taught me courtesy, kindness, patience, generosity, courage, strength, resilience, respect, trust, and above all things they taught me love. I can only hope that I too was able to teach some of those things to them and the entire parish.
Although it is with sadness that I write this, I know it is the right thing to do. I have prayed many a night over this and I am certain God knows what He is doing in this situation and will lead our Youth Group to great things. I want to thank you all for your commitment to and support of the Youth Group, because without it there would be no Youth Group. It has been an honor and privilege serving our parish in this capacity, and I thank the students (both past and present) for enriching my life with fond memories and reminding me that God truly is everywhere we go and in everyone we meet.
God Bless now and always,
Robin Sampogna Horvatin
