The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the principle means by which the Church prepares adults for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Communion. It is the process for you if you fit any of the following categories: un-baptized adult who wishes to become Catholic; adult baptized in a non-Catholic Church who now wishes to be Catholic; adult baptized as Catholic, but have not made their First Communion or Confirmation; un-baptized youth over 7 years of age who wish to be baptized; youth over 7 years of age baptized non-Catholic who now wish to become Catholic.
Many of the people who undergo RCIA describe it as a life changing event. Participants learn the foundation of the Christian faith and review the basics of the sacramental and moral life. They receive an introduction to prayer and worship. They have the support of sponsors, catechists and priests. For more information, call Judy Bentz at 412-921-1613.

As a man entered a restaurant he had no idea that all of his family and friends would be there to shout, “Surprise! Happy 50th Birthday!” The party began with lots of kidding about his fading youth and failing manhood. But, as the evening progressed, he realized how lucky he was to celebrate so much growth in his first fifty years. There was a sense of fulfillment about turning fifty. He could happily let go of earlier notions of who he ought to be and embrace with gratitude the fruits of maturity.
Fifty days after Easter Sunday we celebrate the fulfillment of all God's promises in the Feast of Pentecost. Like those who celebrate their fiftieth birthday, we can spend today looking back at the past with regret or embracing the fullness of the Spirit's fruits that have matured in us over time. Today's scriptures overflow with a sense of fulfillment. The disciples receive a level of maturity that allows them to leave behind their earlier fears and illusions. Like the disciples, we too, can embrace with confidence and maturity “the fruit of the Spirit that has ripened in us.”
Catholics are required to receive Holy Communion worthily at least once between the period of the First Sunday of Lent until the celebration of Trinity Sunday (May 30). The church encourages Catholics to receive the Eucharist regularly rather than just being satisfied with making one's “Easter Duty.“ If a Catholic is in serious state of sin, they are also required to make a worthy confession before receiving Holy Communion, in order to fulfill their Easter Duty.
On Memorial Day weekend many of us will be visiting cemeteries and praying for our departed loved ones, particularly those who died in service to our country. We are grateful for the sacrifices our soldiers have made in order to defend our precious freedom that we enjoy as Americans.
Please come and join the Green Tree American Legion in participating in a special Memorial Day Mass at 10:00 am, on Monday, May 31 in our Church. At this liturgy the soldiers from our parish who died in action will be remembered in a special ceremony.
