Catholic Schools Week

The theme for the 2009 Catholic Schools Week is service.
As we celebrate with our school family “our call to serve one another,” we remember...

Our Students - who every day serve one another by being wonderful examples of Jesus Christ.
Our Staff - who serve the students through a strong academic curriculum, guide them as followers of Christ and a love for the Lord our God.
Our Parents - who live a life of service through all that they do to help with all of the events, activities and athletics.
Our Parish - who help support the activities and offer their prayers for our staff and students.

Lovewalk for the Poor

The 19th Annual "Lovewalk for the Poor" is scheduled to begin with Mass at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 8, 2009, at Sacred Heart Church in Shadyside. All youth, young adults and families are invited to attend. Participants are asked to bring baby items for Catholic Charities Roselia Center and/or non-perishable food items for EECM Soup Kitchen. What makes the Lovewalk unique is participants will carry donated items with them on a one mile walk (after Mass) as a way of experiencing the hardships of the homeless who must carry their possessions with them at all times.  For more information please visit www.diopitt.org/education/Lovewalk.html, or contact Gary Slifkey at Department for Youth and Young Adult Ministry at gslifkey@diopitt.org, or at 412-456-3140.

Souper Bowl of Caring

The weekend of January 31st and February 1st is the Souper Bowl of Caring.  Members of the Youth Group will be collecting donations for our local food pantries after all Masses on Saturday January 31st and Sunday, February 1st.
I understand the economy is tough on everyone these days, but your help to these local organizations goes a long way, so please be as generous as possible.  Thank you.

A Message from the Pastor

 Mass Intentions

Since St. Margaret of Scotland is now staffed with only one priest, I have had to eliminate the 7:00 am weekday Mass. With fewer Masses being celebrated we will not be able to schedule as many Mass requests as we have in the past.

Our Mass Book for 2009 is filled! There are some options available for those who are unable to schedule certain Masses here at the parish. We can send the stipend and intention to the missionary priests, which is a noble way to support the missions and honor your loved ones in a special way. These Masses will be celebrated at a later date by a missionary priest and will be listed in our parish bulletin.

You can also memorialize your loved ones by donating the stipend for: the purchase of Altar flowers, Altar candles, or Communion Hosts and Altar Wine. Notification of the donations will be placed in the Sunday bulletin (i.e. "in Memory of your family member.") In this way you will be supporting your parish as well.

Several families have already elected to do one of the above in lieu of Masses. They have found this to be a deeply spiritual and personal way to remember their loved ones. There are dates available for 2009 if this is something you wish to do.

With you cooperation and consideration we will make every effort to help you honor your families in a unique and noble manner.
