St. Margaret of Scotland Parish

Fourth Sunday of Advent

December 21, 2008

School News

This week ends our Advent Journey, “Wise Men Still Seek Him,” as a school community. We will add the gift of Myrrh to our Prayer Wall. The school students have prepared 500 bags of candy to be sent for a treat to the homeless that visit St. Mary's Red Door in Downtown Pittsburgh. The students have truly reached out to our community this Advent Season through our service projects. We have learned how exciting it can be to prepare and give gifts to others. Please stop by the school to witness our journey on the Prayer Wall!

Our annual Advent program was on Friday December 19th. A big thank-you goes out to Mrs. Olga Kaiser for planning our live Nativity for grades K-5. The students did a wonderful job! Students in Pre-School and 6-8 also did a wonderful job singing Christmas music under the direction of Mrs. Cancilla and Mrs. Gannon.

The students and staff wish all of you a Blessed Christmas!

A Message from the Pastor

“Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and they shall name him Emmanuel” which means “God is with us.”
- Matthew 1:23

My Christmas prayer is that all of St. Margaret's parishioners and families will experience the birth of the Christ Child and that our parish will be transformed by His love and peace. May the joy and hope of the Holy Family be known in every home in our community of faith.

I pray in the spirit of thanksgiving for all who help to make the presence of Our Savior felt by all who worship at St. Margaret of Scotland. I offer special thanks to all who faithfully offer their talents to build up God's Kingdom among us, in particular our choir, lectors, extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, altar servers, ministers of hospitality, sacristans, altar linen launders, church decorators, church cleaners, and also to our folk choir and resurrection choir.

I also would like to thank all who help the parish by their work with RCIA, those on the marriage preparation team, the wedding coordinators and the money counters.

Thanks to all parents who volunteer in anyway at the school or CCD, offering their many talents. Thanks also to those groups who bring support to the homebound or to the poor or to the mentally challenged. Thanks also in a special way to those who take part in the lives our youth, sharing of the faith is an example to us all.

There are many other organizations who make St. Margaret's a special place, thanks to all who help in any way to make our parish such a wonderful community.

As you celebrate Christmas with your friends and families please know that my prayers and heartfelt love are extended to all of you and your loved ones. May the blessings of the infant Jesus be yours in abundance at Christmas, and in the New Year!
