The First Annual Pentecost Event 2002 |
May 19, 2002 |
May 19 was a red-letter day in many ways for St. Margaret of Scotland Parish! On that day, 400 to 450 parishioners and friends gathered in the gym to celebrate the Birthday of the Church. We also celebrated our life together as a Community of Faith. |

Several organizations and individuals gave generous contribution toward the cost. Others donated an amazing variety of gifts for the Chinese Auction. | |
On Saturday afternoon, a small group of dedicated ladies created the ambience which transformed the gym into a site of celebration! |
| Organization leaders came on Saturday evening to prepare and decorate tables. | |||
Members came on Sunday to staff the tables and to offer information about their particular groups. We had 130 workers! |
| On Sunday morning, a balloon path led visitors to the gym where each was welcomed by a member of the Committee, given a ticket for our Chinese Auction, and invited to visit the tables and enjoy a second breakfast. | |||
| For children there were games, face painting done by our Youth Group, and the chance to have a caricature of themselves created. |
Music, colorful balloons, and the sound of great conversation added to the sprit of the Event. It was a celebration not greatly different from the original Pentecost! |
| As Peter welcomed new members on that first Pentecost, our organization folks invited potential members to join them in their chosen ventures in Faith. | |||
Questions were asked, information was provided, and people signed on! It was Evangelization in action! |
As Church Community, we found
ourselves speaking the Word and witnessing the Work of the Lord Jesus.
God's Spirit is clearly alive and well among us!
The great day ended with the drawing for the Auction. The best Auction story was that of a 6 year old boy who came to claim his prize. "Are these for you Daddy?" the distributor-of-gifts inquired. "No, these are mine!" he replied. "I'm in first grade, and I'm taking lessons!" He walked away with his personal set of twelve pro golf balls! |
