Evangelization 2002

January 6, 2002

When they had heard the king, they set out and there, ahead of them went the Star that they had seen at its rising, until it stopped over the place the Child was. When they saw that the Star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the Child with Mary, His mother, and they knelt down and paid Him homage.

For the past half year, St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, it seems, has been following a Star of its own. Last June, the desire to initiate a new process of Evangelization appeared on the horizon. For a brief while we had no idea where the Star would go. However, as time went on, and with some serious hard work, that Star has seemed to be getting closer and brighter. We have come to see a lot of light. If not overwhelmed, we have certainly been joyful!
As we look back over the months of our own journey, like the magi, we pay homage to a God who has shared with us His great Good News, and who has invited us to share that News with all our fellow journeyers.
Like the magi, we haven't knocked on doors, nor preached on street corners, nor even collared co-workers at the water cooler. Like the magi, we have been so graced by the Good News that God has shone to us. We want to keep that Word alive in us, and we want to tell the world of God's manifestation to all His Creation.

One of those goals given us by our bishops was “to bring about in all Catholics such an enthusiasm for their faith that, in living their faith in Jesus, they freely share that with others.”  We thought long and seriously about that goal. We recognized that we must first strengthen and renew our own faith, and then find ways to invite everyone here, to share this faith and proclaim this God. Only then can we go out to the World.
Clearly we are beginning our journey.

Do you remember September and the parish survey? October and the presentation by Fr. Charles Speicher about the conduct of war and the pursuit of peace?

Do you recall the Jeanne Cotter concert and the opening of the parish Website in November? The evening of song and prayer by our parish choir in December?

There is more! With dawn of January has come the brochure--a practical guide for parishioners old and new. Every person in this parish has participated, in one way or another, in this joint effort at Evangelization!

January 2002 brings opportunity to look ahead, to discover and create new ways to bring the Good News of Jesus into every human situation, to challenge ourselves to be converted to the Good New of Jesus, as did those wise men of the Gospel story.

The Evangelization Committee invites you to a new manner of participation. You know there is a Star and you know that it leads to the Jesus of Bethlehem to the Christ of the World. You know that wise men and wise women through the years, have followed that Star. You know that we are all called to seek the Light, which is Christ, and to share it.
We hope you will consider the possibility. Is Evangelization, sharing and witnessing the Word, what you are all about? Is this your moment of conversion? If you think it might be, talk with a member of the Evangelization Committee or call Sister Jackie at (412) 921-1064.

We are anxious to be evangelizers, to spread the Good News!
