The Lenten and Easter Seasons 2004

Journey To Freedom In Christ

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and lasts until evening prayer on Holy Thursday. During the Lenten Season, we celebrate a number of feast days.

Lent is a season of penitential reflection, prayer, and renewal that prepares believers to receive the grace of Jesus Christ through his passion, death, and resurrection. The Lenten observance includes prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

Prayer

Reflect on Christ's passion during the Lenten season.  Stations of the Cross are scheduled each Friday evening at 7:00 p.m.

There will be Eucharistic Adoration beginning at 7:30 p.m. with Benediction at 8:15 p.m. on March 5, 2004

Visit our Stations of the Cross Page.

Private prayer during Lent should bring us closer to the Lord. We might pray for:

  • the grace to live our baptismal promises fully
  • those who celebrate the sacrament of reconciliation with us during Lent
  • the elect who will be baptized at Easter

Parish Renewal

We will be host a Parish Renewal from February 28 to March 4, 2004 conducted by Vincentian Father Richard Gielo, C.M.

Fasting

Fasting is an ancient practice associated with Lent.  Let the pangs of hunger remind us of our hunger for God.  To help Catholics observe the Lenten call to repentance, the Church has established Lenten Regulations.

Almsgiving

Almsgiving and Works of Charity are signs that we care for those in need and is also an expression of gratitude for all that God has given to us.

Other Penitential Practices

The Committee on Pastoral Practices of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops discusses penitential practices in a document entitled Penitential Practices for Today's Catholics, which is available at www.usccb.org/dpp/penitential.htm

Customs

Traditions, activities, and events help enrich the celebration of the season.

Our Easter Customs Page discusses common Easter customs, traditions, inspirations, and resources.

Visit this page, the Easter Customs Page, and the Events Page often during the season for updated information.
